Atlantic Coast
Argentina's classic beach city — wide sand, seafood and a long summer season.
Quick answer
Choose Playa Grande or Los Troncos for quieter, better-built beach apartments and houses, or the Centro and Playa Bristol area to be within walking distance of the busiest beaches. January and February book out months ahead and price at a steep premium.
Overview
Mar del Plata is where Buenos Aires goes in January. It is a full city rather than a resort: fishing port, theaters, universities and more than a dozen distinct beaches along 17 kilometers of coast.
The rental market is the largest on the Atlantic coast, spanning tower apartments with sea views, chalets in the wooded barrios and larger houses in the northern beach districts.
Playa Grande and Los Troncos are the most attractive areas — leafy streets, good restaurants and easy beach access. The northern beaches suit families wanting more space, while the center puts you closest to the port and theaters.
