A Vacation Rental Guide to Mendoza Wine Country

Quick answer

Where should you rent in Mendoza wine country?

Chacras de Coria suits travelers who want restaurants and a village feel, Luján de Cuyo puts you among classic Malbec bodegas, and the Uco Valley delivers the highest-altitude vineyards and best Andes views. Budget for a car or driver in all three.

Mendoza rewards renting a house. The region's rhythm is long lunches and slow afternoons, and a finca with a pool and an outdoor grill fits that far better than a hotel room.

Choosing a district

Luján de Cuyo is the practical base: half an hour from the airport, dense with wineries and well supplied with rentals. The Uco Valley is roughly 90 minutes further, higher, emptier and considerably more dramatic. Maipú is the flattest and most affordable, and the only district you can realistically explore by bicycle.

What to look for in a finca

Vineyard rentals vary widely in isolation and self-sufficiency.

  • A pool, if you are visiting between November and March
  • Air conditioning as well as a wood stove — days are hot, nights are cold
  • Road access: confirm whether the final approach is paved
  • Distance to the nearest supermarket, which can be 20 minutes or more

Timing around harvest

Vendimia runs from late February into April and is the most atmospheric time to visit — as well as the hardest to book. If your dates are fixed in March, secure a rental early and reserve winery lunches at the same time.

Getting around

Rent a car, then plan tasting days around a designated driver or a hired remis. Distances between bodegas are longer than they look on a map, and enforcement of drink-driving limits is strict.
